Over the years, I could not think of any better reason why lots of people are swooning over smoothies until the day I finally tasted them myself. I am fond of tasty, colorful juices, but ever since I tasted a better smoothie than the sugary ones down the road, I instantly became obsessed with it! Now I understand the craze.
What I am talking about is not the commercialized, sugary smoothies that make your stomach bloated but not full, but the REAL ones! Real smoothies are better smoothies, and the best part is that you can make them at home!
If you are looking for ways to start eating healthier, don’t worry because I am just about to teach and inspire you to make a homemade better smoothie. Still, a quick and easy process yet fully packed with the nutrients your body needs! So, let’s begin.
How to Build a Better Smoothie
Rather than going out to a smoothie stand or shop and buying a sugar-loaded drink making them at home is equally as easy and saves the drive.
You don’t need special ingredients, no fancy equipment, no nothing that requires tons of money…
Simple, store-bought items will do just fine for a delicious better smoothie that’s cheap, healthy, and good for you too.
There is really no magic to making a better smoothie. What you need is just a good balance of macronutrients to achieve it. Macronutrients are made of protein, fat, and carbohydrates, and they keep the body energized. They are also important in maintaining its structure and systems. So, what more can you ask if you have a smoothie as nutritious as this?
Adding fruits to your smoothie can add up to its nutritional content. Depending on the fruit you use, you can get a free source of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber for your body!
Fruits can also add flavor to your smoothie. In the morning, they serve perfectly well for any breakfast meal. Start with just 1 cup of your preferred fruit.
Although fruits are great, they aren’t the only ingredients that you will need for your smoothie. In order to have a good balance of macronutrients, you will also need to add fat and protein into your drinks.
To achieve a better and healthier smoothie, it is best to add a plant-based fat, such as nut butter and seeds. These plant-based fats do not only add filling to your smoothie but also bring high content of omega-3 fatty acids and monounsaturated fat, which are good for the heart.
There are plenty of options to choose from for your liquid. The common ones are milk, iced coffee, juice, non-dairy milk, or coconut water. But if you prefer a protein-overload smoothie, you can choose pea protein milk for your liquid, which has 8 to 19 grams of protein per cup. If your smoothie already has enough protein, the best choices would be lighter liquids such as almond milk and coconut water.
Depending on the kind of liquid you choose as an ingredient, you can have a smoothie with a great source of calcium for the body.
To build a better smoothie, I’d suggest using whey protein as ingredients. High protein smoothies are suitable for those who want to lose weight and stay energized throughout the day.
A protein-rich smoothie is good for your health because it contains lots of nutrients that can be efficiently utilized and absorbed by the body. As a matter of fact, protein drinks are what most bodybuilders and athletes consume to gain strength and muscle mass without losing fat.
Moreover, a protein-rich smoothie will act as a tasty nutritional supplement. The nutrients it provides can help make hormones and enzymes, build muscles, and repair tissues. It gives a nutritional boost while toning your muscles and helping you reach your weight loss goal.
To make your smoothie a lot better than the rest, add some veggies too. Vegetables, especially leafy greens can provide health benefits such as immunity support, digestive health, bone strength, and more! Even if you’re someone who dislikes the bitter taste that vegetables have, I tell you once you’ve tasted this, you won’t be able to taste them. You might keep coming back for more! That’s just how delicious it is!
The Benefits of Drinking Smoothies
Not only can I enjoy the delicious taste of smoothies, but my body can also absorb its nutrients. Smoothies are perfect for all seasons. When and you are feeling a bit groggy, smoothies can cheer up your senses.
There is no need to skip any meal just to cut off excess body weight. Drinking healthy smoothies during breakfast time is already an excellent choice to feed your body with nutrients. Fruits and vegetables added to smoothies contain enzymes that dissolve body fats and improve the circulatory system.
Since our body is composed of 70 percent water, that makes dehydration a serious matter that has to be dealt with right away! Healthy smoothies help replenish the loss of water in the body, especially during humid and hot days.
Aids in Digestion
The green leafy vegetables added to your smoothie contain some vitamins and nutrients that facilitate healthy digestion. You can purposely add vegetables with high fiber content.
Fruits and vegetables are rich sources of vitamin C. It is a vitamin known to neutralize free radicals in the body and removes toxins from it. It helps prevent a lot of diseases in the future. Some of the fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidant properties are berries and grapes.
Improves skin & eye complexion
Some fruits contain carotenoids, which are beneficial for eye health and skin complexion. Even with the scorching heat of the sun, drinking smoothies in the summertime would keep your skin glowing.
Did you know that patients with mental problems, like depression, are advised to drink smoothies in the morning as part of their breakfast meal? It is because some fruits and vegetables contain high levels of folic acid. One study found that high levels of folic acid in the body can lower depression.
Now that you know how to make a better smoothie, you can now start your day right with a healthy breakfast meal! Your healthy smoothie will keep you energized throughout the day! Making smoothies is a rewarding thing to do because it is not only healthy but enjoyable too!
