If you thought dessert was off the menu on a ketogenic diet then you’re in for a really big treat. Keto desserts are one of those things that are a mystery, but you are eternally grateful for them.

There aren’t many diets where dessert is something you can have at any time during the day in an attempt to get more fat in your belly.

On the keto diet though it’s all fair play and even encouraged! Any way to add extra fat to our diet when we’re struggling to add fat is a good thing.

Are You Ready For Some Keto Desserts?

But, what is the keto diet anyway and why are desserts something everyone looks forward to?

A ketogenic diet (keto diet) is one where you eat a high fat, moderate protein, and really low carb diet. It can look many different ways for many different people, but the gist is that 75% of your diet is fat, 20% is protein and the last 5% is from carbs.

Typically, you want to keep your carb intake below 30g net carbs. IF you can keep it 20g and lower then more power to you and hot damn that’s awesome.

I’ve been able to stay below 30g net carb but getting under 20g drives me nuts. I feel like all I eat at that point is meat, cheese, and oil.

But, I digress, desserts are what we’re here to talk about.

Ingredients to Make Yummy Keto Desserts

So, what makes all these keto desserts different than regular desserts?

For one, it’s the ingredients. Secondly, they’re generally sugar-free. If you’re trying to kick sugar then these are amazing AND you don’t have to give up your sweets! Can’t get better than that can it, can it?

But, how do you make desserts that are keto friendly and something you can eat on a daily basis?

It all starts with how you’re making them and what ingredients you use. We know that high carb stuff is a no-go, so that means sugar, wheat and such aren’t going to be used.

Here are some of the substitutes people use for making keto desserts.

Common Keto Flour Substitutes:

  • Almond Flour
  • Coconut Flour
  • Ground Flaxseed

They’re low in carbs and still really healthy for us. Not to mention they’re pretty freaking tasty too.

Common Keto Sugar Substitutes:

  • Monkfruit Sweetener
  • Erythritol
  • Xylitol
  • Stevia

I can’t attest to the flavor of erythritol or xylitol, but I know many people who use them. Mostly we use Monkfruit Sweetener.

We use the Lakanto Brand. It’s delicious.

Other Things You Might Need:

Is that it though? Just flour and a little keto sugar substitutes? Of course not!

You still need other ingredients, but like any other thing you make all the ingredients are dependent upon the recipe you’re using.

There might be a two-ingredient recipe or maybe a 10-ingredient recipe. It all depends on what you’re making.

  • Butter
  • Olive Oil
  • Coconut Oil
  • Cream Cheese
  • Heavy Whipping Cream
  • Spices
  • Coconut Butter
  • Cacao Butter / Powder
